Residents and local shopkeepers of Andheri West, particularly those living near JP Road, organized a town hall meeting in my presence, alongside the concerned road engineer from the K West Ward. The discussion focused on the proposed 27.45-meter widening of JP Road and its potential impact on the community.
JP Road, a vital connector from SV Road Junction to Navrang Cinema, serves as a major link to Lokhandwala, Versova, and Link Road. However, it remains highly congested, partly due to the poorly planned Versova-to-Ghatkopar Metro Line 1. Concerned residents and shopkeepers from Andheri West gathered for the meeting to discuss the proposed road widening and the associated rehabilitation process.
K West Ward Road Engineer Agarwal presented the proposal, assuring attendees that most affected shops would be rehabilitated on-site, using the Kurar pattern. This approach aims to decongest JP Road while addressing the shopkeepers’ needs, creating a win-win solution for all. Rakesh Kothari, founder of the local ALM and convener of the meeting, emphasized the urgent need to decongest JP Road to provide relief to the thousands who travel through it daily. However, he also stressed the importance of prioritizing on-site rehabilitation for those affected.
I assured everyone that proper rehabilitation would be provided for all affected individuals throughout the process. I also emphasized that the widening of JP Road had been long overdue and expressed confidence that this initiative would bring much-needed relief to the citizens.
