The MLA of Andheri, Ameet Satam met with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in relation to the open spaces maintenance issues. The MLA of Andheri west had suggested that the open spaces continue to be supervised by the BMC and civic bodies. The resident’s associations shouldn’t have to do the work of the governmental civic bodies. It is under the BMC responsibilities to cater to the open space areas and also keep the public spaces clean and under proper conditions.
The people have had to make associations to gather funds to maintain the public property which is not how it is supposed to be done. The residents are meant to be watchdogs and bystanders in these activities.
According to Ameet Satam, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should fulfill their responsibility towards the people and their country. The civic bodies are well equipped with the right amount of funds and facilities provided by the government to carry out all these duties.
The associations that are formed which include regular people and residents living in the society don’t have the appropriate funds to carry out maintenance and developmental projects that would help keep the open spaces in good condition for public use.
The role of the residents is to enjoy the benefits of the open space properties and to also be spectators in the good work the government implements towards safeguarding and protecting public property and interest.
Ameet Satam urges the people that he is working towards making a statement that would kick-start efficiency in the civic bodies. The resident associations have met with the MLA a few times and have discussed the possibilities and challenges they face in getting the BMC to execute and bring solutions to their problems. Ameet Satam gives his assurance to be a representative speaker for the people’s association body.
The BMC is on the verge of finalizing a policy that would entail the open spaces infrastructural and developmental projects. Before the policy is declared, Ameet Satam wants to push forward the interest of the people in respect of the supervision and maintenance situation that lies with the residential association.
The city’s open spaces remain the civic body’s obligatory duty towards society as a whole. The bodies should not demand or expect local residents to do their work for them. Also, various citizen groups have granted their ideas and suggestions to help include various interests they have in regard to the open space policy.
The new policy that has been worked on for quite a while is close to being finalized, the MLA expects that the suggestions were given by the residential associations be taken into account before releasing the policy to be executed.
Ameet Satam is working closely with the policy development and plans to put the interest of the people first when it comes to the roles that are required of the civic bodies to perform effectively and with great results.
