The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena held separate protests at a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) office on Tuesday against erratic water supply in Andheri, Juhu and Vile Parle. Both parties have given an ultimatum to BMC engineers to restore the supply that has been erratic for almost a month.
For about a month, many parts of the city, including Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Bhendi Bazaar areas in South Mumbai and Juhu, Khar, Andheri, Jogeshwari in western suburbs, have reported problems with water supply. Colaba BJP corporator Makarand Narvekar had organised a protest earlier this month.
On Tuesday, BJP MLA Ameet Satam along with BJP corporators Aneesh Makwaney, Renu Hansraj and Rohan Rathod protested at the deputy hydraulic engineer’s office in Andheri against the issue. “Supply has been erratic in Juhu, Andheri and JVPD for almost a month. The officers are unable to determine the fault despite there being no water cut. We had to supply water to many buildings using tankers. Several buildings don’t have a drop of water today,” Mr. Ameet Satam said. He has given the BMC time till October 28 to fix the issue.
Vile Parle Shiv Sena leader Jitendra Janawale, too, protested at the office for erratic supply in Vile Parle (West). Mr. Janawale said water supplied in the area also had a foul smell.
“The officer told us there is a leak in one of the valves of the Veravali reservoir. We have given them two days to fix the issue. The entire Vile Parle (West) is suffering. If even MLAs and corporators can’t fix the issue, they should resign,” Mr. Janawale said.
